SECRET SPOTS.

SECRET SPOTS.

June 03 2019

This activity is so lovely that I wanted to highlight it further. If you have watched the video in this bundle you will have been introduced to the concept of secret spots. This activity has the potential to be a powerful ‘tool’ in your family toolkit, so I wanted to revisit it here.

Life is busy and our children and ourselves are bombarded by huge quantities of information to process every day. This exercise gives you a wonderful opportunity for some time out and calm.

WHAT IS A SECRET SPOT?

You can interpret the term ‘secret spot’ in the way that best suits you / your children / your family. The idea is that you encourage your children to find a place to sit and enjoy a moment of calm. You may go for a walk with the intention of seeking out and finding a secret spot or simply go into your garden or make it a corner of your house.

Encourage your children to find their own secret spot as they will know what appeals to them. One of our key sayings at the PFA is ‘to be a participant and not an observer’ so this is a great exercise for grown-ups to join in with too 😊.

THE BEST BALLS OF POWER.

THE BEST BALLS OF POWER.

May 03 2019

You need bucket-loads of energy to be parents. While it is incredibly comforting to reach for the chocolate and crisps once the kids are in bed, this month you might like to treat yourself to a more satisfying snack which will also boost your energy and wellbeing.

GRATITUDE and bringing out the positives.

GRATITUDE and bringing out the positives.

May 03 2019

An effective way of helping our kids be more positive and appreciative is by practising gratitude with them.

This is not the classic remembering to say please and thank you (although this is good!) it is a whole step further.

SO WHAT IS GRATITUDE?

The dictionary definition is as follows … ‘the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.’

But what does it mean to practise gratitude and how can it help boost positivity for your kids and your family?

There has been a huge number of studies into this and the results are really encouraging. In a nutshell, if you take time out of your day to notice the positives and be grateful for them, it can have a profound impact on your quality of life …. sleeping better, moods improve, you are more compassionate and kind and there is a reflex to seek out the positive rather than wallow in the negative. Sound good? I think so.

CARDS OF POSITIVITY.

Being a kid is not always easy. We all need a regular hit of positivity whether we are 2 or 92.

This month we are featuring the brilliant YesMum Mini cards as a way of doing this. These are the creation of Hollie de Cruz @theyesmummum and are positive statement cards that you use with your children.

They come in packs of 31 cards and are brilliant as a conversation starter or a way of bolstering your children’s self-esteem. They are a great tool for helping them to recognise their qualities.

We are featuring 3 of them as a starting point.

HOW TO USE THEM:

This is what Hollie recommends: A great way to start the day is by choosing a positive card together each morning (start with the 3 featured in the image above). Read it aloud five times and encourage them to embrace it for the rest of their day.

For younger children, you could explain that they are cards for strength, and that if they say them often enough they’ll have the power to become true. For older children they can be used for specific issues, so if they’re having a hard time learning a new skill or with homework, pick out “I can do anything I out my mind to” and encourage them to recite it until they feel stronger.

You can create your own cards with your children if you want to.
