So here is what we recommend you do:
Spend some time on an evening going through different music. This is a lovely alternative to watching tv. See what resonates with you and evokes a feeling of relaxation (you may find River Dawn is perfect!). Top tip: your heartbeat and breath respond to music so anything with too much of a beat may be too stimulating.
Once you have picked your music:
Get some comfy clothes on (Pj’s work best!), get into bed or get super comfy on the sofa.
Switch your music on and then place all devices out of reach, on silent and face down. You really don’t want to be disturbed. This is your time.
Take some nice deep, slow breaths.
Simply be. Let your thoughts roam as they need to. Simply enjoy the feeling of stopping and allowing yourself to calm down.
Allow the music to lull you to sleep. Have a nap or fall asleep fully if it is bedtime and enjoy a more restful sleep as your brain has had a chance to slow down.
Music at bedtime is a great idea. If you listen to the same track nightly and put your devices well out of reach you will be giving your body excellent cues that is it time to rest. Try it. It is a bit delicious.
