ALL WILL BE WELL MAMA.
STARTING SCHOOL - TIME FOR THE FRONT DOOR PHOTO.
How is your front door looking?! Is it primed and polished for those all important first day of school pics?!
And you? Primed and ready? Or a bit wobbly on your hinges?
Your child is starting school. This is a big deal and feeling wobbly (both you and them) is utterly normal. SO many emotions surround this time.
A LAST WAVE AT THE WINDOW.
OUR SUMMER LIST OF 10 JUST EXPLODED.
WHY FAMILIES NEED MUSIC IN THEIR LIVES.
An anchor, some Pj's and a tune.
Take a quick look at The Positive Place and then nip back over here as we are talking anchors too 😊
As you will have just read, music makes a brilliant anchor. Just as you can anchor yourself to a happy feeling through music, you can equally use it to foster a feeling of calm. And that is what we are encouraging you to do.
We are HUGELY overstimulated in today’s society. Relaxation is becoming a lost art. Even when we plan a relaxing evening, our phone is normally within reach and the tv is on. Both stimulate our brains and don’t give us the much needed down time and headspace we crave.
So here is a lovely suggestion to help you take it back a notch or two. Music is a very effective anchor for relaxation. In the same way we are encouraging you and your children to find yourselves a happy theme tune, you can also find one that evokes feelings of relaxation. A track we highly recommend is called ‘River Dawn’ and it is one we have used for years both for the grown ups and the kids to relax to.
CREATE YOUR OWN HAPPY THEME TUNE.
I want to talk to you about anchors first. What is an anchor? The first thing you might think of is the metal version, used by boats to stop themselves drifting due to wind or current. But anchors can be used by us too. An anchor is something we can use to help stabilise us or secure us to a feeling or emotion. Lots of things or people can act as an anchor.
Music can be a fantastic anchor. So often we hear a song on the radio and are transported back to a different part of our lives and with that memory comes a feeling. Music is incredibly evocative.
We can absolutely harness the power of music and use it to our advantage. This month we are encouraging you and your children to find a happy theme song for yourselves. (Those of you who watched Ally McBeal in the 90’s might remember she used this to good effect!)
